Since the passage of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) in 1976, Americans have become increasingly aware of the construction, operation, closure, and post-closure management of hazardous waste sites in their communities. Consequently, companies are finding that maintaining good relationships with the communities during all stages in the life of hazardous waste facilities can make a significant difference when it comes time to amend or renew RCRA permits. The EPA has recently issued guidance to assist such companies in developing and maintaining good relationships with their neighbors.
